Following huge success from first single Better Days off second album See the Sun, Pete Murray is wrapping up a national promotional tour after just releasing second single, Class A. This new single has just been given the honour of most added track to Australian radio, and given Pete’s past success it’s not hard to see why.

Pete Murray’s sound is very laidback and while still classed as rock, it is very much slow rock. Past hits off the album Feeler are exemplary of this, but Class A however, is a very funky and upbeat track. Opening with what seems to be a bit of synth guitar, which is prominent throughout the track, it starts out with a catchy mix of guitar and drum. Then comes Pete’s gravelly yet soothing voice which for many is the main attraction to his music.

Never once in the song is the lyric ‘class A’ actually said, so it’s one of those songs that is titled after it’s meaning. The lyrics go something like this:

Be yourself
If you wanna know your name
Be your friends
And if you ever want to pay

All of this place
Is all about to fall
Right down on you
If you change what you say

From these lyrics, it seems that Pete is talking about sticking to what you say and not changing yourself or your opinion to conform with what others think; stay class A by being who you are. Then comes the climax of the song which really starts to pick up with the synth guitar and drums. This is accompanied by the vocals and lyrics of:

And you know what you know
And you see what you bend
Can’t believe its insane
Come on be what you mean

Pete is sticking to what he does best; good lyrics with a track that appeals to those who know his music, those who are one-off fans, and those who are new to his music.
