While house music rarely gets a mention, kudos must be given to whomever chose a bit of Barry Manilow as the first track played after the show, as people slowly realised what they were hearing, everyone joined in a spirited sing-along as they made their way out the doors, looking for all the world like exuberant lads whose football team had just won.

Drawing close to the entrance to Fly By Night Musician’s Club, hearing the unmistakable sound of Queen’s Flash Gordon Theme Song blasting within; Some might have hesitated to enter, wondering exactly what they were in for.

There were high hopes for the sx-headed lineup at the Railway Hotel on Saturday, headlined by The Silents, a band everyone has seen live by now, and who have a reputation for encouraging a shout-along among fans. Uncharacteristically though, they ended up ‘rockin’ the Railway’ to sleep and living up to their name for a change.

It was a Birds of Tokyo weekend at Amplifier; after selling out Friday and Saturday’s shows weeks earlier, they added a Sunday night gig at the last minute, which also sold out at the door.

David Thrussell returned to Sin on Saturday in his Black Lung costume, treating patrons to some old school industrial techno from a gothic horror novel.

As well as doing their bit for pop diversity, bands Bluejuice and The Paper Scissors have between them, the most adorable dimples in Australian music today. The population is just one grin and lopsided gaze away from complete subjugation, so when you join the audience of either of these bands, be prepared to, as Bluejuice puts it, dance in a retarded way.

V Festival wrapped up in Perth on Sunday and not only were the bands showing signs of wear, but the sound guys clearly napped throughout the entire day.
